Baseball legend Curt Schilling has been diagnosed with cancer.
The former Arizona Diamondbacks and Boston Red Sox pitcher announced the news on Wednesday, insisting he’s determined to fight the disease.
He says, “I’ve always believed life is about embracing the gifts and rising up to meet the challenges. We’ve been presented with another challenge, as I’ve recently been diagnosed with cancer.”
The retired sportsman, who is now a U.S. TV pundit for ESPN adds, “With my incredibly talented medical team I’m ready to try and win another big game.”
It’s the second cancer scare for the Schilling family – Curt’s wife Shonda was diagnosed with stage two malignant melanoma in 2001.
